Neck Lift Surgery: How It Is Done by Expert Surgeons?

Neck Lift surgery

Neck lift surgery is a surgical procedure that helps enhance the contours of your neck. This is a form of cosmetic procedure that helps you correct cosmetic issues such as jowls, double chin, etc.

What is a Neck Lift surgery?

A neck lift surgery, also known as lower rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure that helps get rid of visible aging and post-obesity signs such as a double chin or jowls. You may get excessive deposits of fat and loose skin under your jaw-line that gives your neck a double chin. The procedure of neck lift aims to remove the excess skin and fat deposits from the lower face region that create jowls, fat deposits from under the chin, loose skin in around the neck as well as the banding of muscles which creates an abnormally contoured neck.

Who is a candidate for a Neck Lift surgery?

An ideal candidate for a neck lift surgery is an overall healthy individual, with mo underlying medical condition, that the doctor/surgeon feels is fit to undergo surgery. Certain people might feel that they are not comfortable undergoing a full facelift because the upper face region is still appealing. However, many of these may notice a part of excessive skin under the jaw-line, below the chin, that lies loose and hangs down. When the neck region is disproportionate to the rest of the face in terms of contour, then a neck lift surgery is usually advised.

Neck Lift surgery procedure

A neck lift surgery follows the usual pre-surgical physical examination. The cosmetic surgeon will perform this procedure under after administering general anesthesia. The size of the incision will depend on the amount of improvement you would like to see, which includes a traditional neck lift or a limited incision neck lift. Usually the traditional method of neck lift requires an incision beginning at the hairline at the level of your earlobe continuing lower and around the ear to end at the back portion of your scalp. The procedure may require removing and redistributing fat from under the chin to the neck. The underlying tissue is repositioned and the platysma muscle may also be tightened. The cosmetic surgeon will stretch the skin over the uplifted contours while the excess skin is removed. In case the neck region requires a liposuction procedure with repair of the neck muscles, a separate incision might be made under the chin. A limited incision neck lift procedure requires making an incision only around the ear. As the incisions are smaller the results are also limited. The surgeon will close the incision lines with fine sutures or skin adhesive. The sutures selected are usually of the dissolving type or may be normal sutures that are required to be removed after several days. After they are healed, the incision lines are virtually invisible hidden under the hairline and around the lines of the ear.
