World Hypertension Day

World Hypertension Day is celebrated on 17th of May every year to raise awareness about hypertension. World Hypertension Day was designated and initiated by The World Hypertension League (WHL). Hypertension is a silent killer. Hypertension is a high blood pressure condition in which the arterial blood pressure rises to a high level from the normal level. There are no clear signs or symptoms of Hypertension condition. Blurred vision, frequent headaches, confusion, blurred vision, palpitation, sleepiness are some of the common symptoms of Hypertension. There are two types of Hypertension primary or essential hypertension and Secondary hypertension. Primary hypertension is very common however its causes are still unknown. Secondary hypertension is usually caused by another underlying disease such as kidney damage, tumors, thyroid gland dysfunctioning or over wrong medications. There are various factors that increase the risks of Hypertension. High dietary salt is one of the major risks. Other factors such as age, obesity, lifestyle. Excess alcohol consumption, genetics, family history or race can contribute toward the risk factors of Hypertension. It is prevented primary hypertension however secondary hypertension is a much more severe condition which can be managed and cured if treated well. It also needs lifestyles changes such as avoiding alcohol consumption, smoking and low intake of sodium and physical exercise.
